Hide a Hinge™ is the first solution to hiding doorways behind furniture or other object easily in a simple DIY fashion.  The Hide a Hinge™ hardware can be retrofitted to existing doorways or new build framing.  The unique and patented design of Hide a Hinge™ allows you to keep the functionality of the existing door and door handle.

Hide a Hinge™ has a unique patented dual pivot design that allow you to pull the furniture away from the wall prior to swinging it open.  When fully extended Hide a Hinge™ goes from being completely concealed in a doorway to reaching 12 inches away from the wall.  Hide a Hinge™ can be used with door casing as wide as 4” and as thick as ¾”.  Hide a Hinge™ can be used on most existing doorways that open away from you (which should be all doors that are made to be locked in one direction and not the other, or if the other side of the door is the “restricted” area such as a restroom, bedroom etc).

The unique design of Hide a Hinge™ means it can be installed with minimal modifications to the doorway and usually minimal modifications to any furniture or doorway covering.  Because there is only minimal modification to existing framing or door covering the tools needed are simple.  Generally a basic hand saw or oscillating saw is needed with the addition of an impact driver and a drill.  All hardware for a basic installation are included.  From start to finish Hide a Hinge™ can be unsitalled in under 1 hr.

Existing “hidden hinge” solutions are very specific for their use and application.  We have not seen hidden hinges on the market that can handle the shear load of a armoire or bookshelf.  They generally lack other functionality as well such as retrofitting, holding heavy doors/objects. Require specialty tools such as deep routers or even custom made doors and doorways.  While other hinges may be cheaper initially they quickly get very expensive when considering all the custom woodworking that will need to be done to utilize these hinges and legitimately make it perfect enough to pass as “hidden”.

Hide a Hinge™ is made of quality materials that will not corrode because it utilizes hardened stainless steel and CNC machined 6061 structural aluminum. The aluminum linkages have an initial sheer strength of 40,000 lbs and the stainless steel pins can handle a sheer load of 100,000 lbs.  Hide a Hinge™ utilizes bearings throughout its design so there is zero metal on metal friction points that are bearing protected.  These bearings are important to any long lasting hinge design because they make sure that any movement remains smooth and easy under pressure and will not wear out over time due to high friction.  Hide a Hinge™ was built to handle over 4,000,000 door openings under load, so to put this in perspective you would have to live to be 100 years old and open the hidden doorway every day over 100 times to approach the rated lifespan of these bearings.  At  a more reasonable rate of 10 times a day its rated to last for 40 generations.

In the first quarter of 2025 we will be releasing the Extreme Duty hinge extender.  This hinge extender will offer an even more robust option for those super heavy dynamic load situations.  Hide a Hinge™ will be made of the same 6061 aluminum as the hinge itself for the best strength to weight ratio.

Because of the unique properties of the dual pivot Hide a Hinge™ design there are not a lot of solutions for latching a door discreetly and securely.  Traditionally we would have used Mag locks on both the right and left side of the door opening but those typically were hardwired. To solve this solution we have designed Hide a Latch which is a preexisting hidden solution for latching things while being completely hidden, operatied remotely and is battery operated.
